The Echo of the Herd

The Echo of the Herd

This sensitive documentary delves into the lives of Anja and Lisa over the course of a whole year. The down-to-earth cowgirl with a special connection to animals and the empathetic soul-opener form an unlikely but unbeatable team that helps women find their own strength through horse-assisted retreats.

‘The Echo of the Herd’ is a quiet, attentive observation over 12 months that portrays two fascinating young women and illuminates their profound relationship with animals and therapy. While the first half leaves time for intimate character portraits, the second half of the film accompanies a two-day retreat: The camera becomes a silent confidant during emotional conversations, liberating singing and the intimate togetherness between women who seek protection and healing in nature and with horses.

In the style of ‘Cinema Verité’, the film dispenses with a narrator. It lets images and emotions speak for themselves through the voices of the protagonists.

The film provides a necessary response to the contemporary spirit: it addresses the growing longing for deceleration, psychological resilience and female community. It is visually appealing, deeply human and offers viewers a valuable and grounded insight into alternative paths to self-discovery.

At the 2026 London International Film Festival – Film Fest Fusion – this film won in the “Best Short Documentary” category.

The film was an official finalist for Best Short Documentary at the 2026 Singapore Script & Film Festival.
