Love Will Set You Free

Love Will Set You Free

Workshop presentation of “Love Will Set You Free” the opening number of “Lucy! The Musical” a creative work in progress.

Fenton Turner and his husband Angus Lundberg are in New York to pitch their new musical, “Lucy! The Musical” to potential investors after a successful West Coast try out run. Before they even awaken in their hotel room that morning, Fenton’s fourth great-grandmother Lucy and three other entities from “Another Side of A Mirror” are debating whether Fenton will ever come to understand the meaning of the “Antebellum, Interracial, Intergenerational, Intersectional, Fully Sexual, Unbelievably True Tale of How the Power of Love Will You Free” that they sing of – a message of self-love that Lucy has been trying to communicate to Fenton, from Another Side, his entire life. Lucy knows that her purpose here is to ensure that Fenton understands the message, and if he does not figure out its meaning, all memory of her may be erased forever, and with it, Fenton’s own past successes, including obtaining the first three legs of an EGOT (Emmy, Grammy and Oscar for other projects about Lucy).
